Prix Lignum

The Prix Lignum 2021 honors the innovative, high-quality and forward-looking use of wood in buildings, interior design, furniture and artistic works. The Rynetel wildlife bridge over the A1 freeway and the «Krokodil» in Winterthur are awarded with a recognition.

No fewer than 530 entries from all parts of the country were received for the nationwide Prix Lignum 2021 - 67 more projects than in the last competition in 2018. The award ceremonies were held on September 30, 2021 and October 1, 2021. The record number of entries impressively reflects the rapidly growing importance of wood as a material. Arranged by region, the following picture emerges with regard to the number of entries: Region West 85 projects, Center 67, North 152, East 120 and Center 106. All projects are posted on www.prixlignum.ch in words and pictures. 

The 41 best buildings and projects made of wood will be presented in the special edition of the magazine «Hochparterre» for the Prix Lignum 2021. We congratulate all the prize winners. A big thank you goes to the jury teams who visited countless projects in the five major regions.

Recognition for WTK Rynetel and the Crocodile «Krokodil»  

We are especially pleased about the recognitions for the projects Wildlife Bridge Rynetel and «Krokodil». As timber engineers, we were able to play a decisive role in shaping these projects.

It took a long time to convince them: more than 20 years ago, Stefan Zöllig demonstrated that wood is the right choice of building material for green bridges. Now it has been built, the first wildlife bridge made of wood - and is winning recognition in the Northern Region. Here you can find detailed information about the wildlife bridge.

Where locomotives and machines were once built, a new urban district is now being created. Urban living and working space for over 1,500 people is being created right next to Winterthur train station. The «Krokodil» is an important building block of the new district and currently one of the largest wooden buildings. Here you can find detailed information about the «Krokodil».
