The Project
This new construction in Flühli, in the canton of Lucerne, comprises nine condominiums, including a spacious penthouse. The four-story timber structure now houses eight apartments and a spacious penthouse, all built to condominium standards. The building is characterized by its spacious living areas and a facade featuring large openings. The client is not only the building’s designer but also the timber builder and manufacturer of the cross-laminated timber. The entire project was optimized technically and economically in line with the production capabilities of cross-laminated timber and to maximize living space.
Construction Method
Everything above ground level, except for the stairwell, is made of wood. On the ground floor and the upper floors, the exterior and interior walls and floor slabs are constructed using solid cross-laminated timber (CLT). For the living areas with large spans and for the support slab on the penthouse floor, TS3 technology was used to enable construction without the need for joists.
The Challenge
Great attention was paid to developing details that would allow the high requirements for impact sound insulation to be met while keeping the CLT walls and floors visible. The selected construction details were validated through sound measurements.
